Ancient Theatre
Dating back to Ancient Greek times, the basic constructions of ancient theatres are circular or large semicircular, built on the slope of the potential hillside, in line with the terrain, with the auditorium ascending by row. This spacial structure combines both centralized and linear architectural elements: the dominant space of the ancient theatre centres on the orchestra, or the stage, with rows of terraced seats extending in a radial pattern. The unique constructive way of the ancient theatres represents a nebulous, hard to define, concept of space. Just as Henry Michaux wrote in his prose poem Space in the Shadow, "Space, but you cannot even conceive the horrible inside-outside that real space is".
